Soudal opens new production unit in India
Soudal opens its 11th production unit in India!
Soudal continues to grow and has just opened a new production unit; its eleventh already!
On Sunday November 4th, this newest production site was officially inaugurated in Bawal, India. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Governor of Antwerp, Cathy Berx, and a VOKA delegation led by its president, Bernard Van Milders.
Soudal has been active in the Indian market since the beginning of 2010, when it established a Joint Venture with the McCoy Group from New Delhi. Today, this JV employs over 60 people at four regional branches in Mumbai, Calcutta, Bangalore and New Delhi. Now we can also add Bawal to this list, situated in the state of Haryana, a one-and-a-half-hour drive south of New Delhi. The new production hall has a surface area of 6,700 m² and was built on a 20,000 m² site. It has a capacity of 15 million cartridges per year.
Dirk Coorevits, CEO of the Soudal Group, specifies the main reasons for expanding part of the production further in countries such as India: "First, it allows us to create more flexibility and lower the transport costs. Second, it reduces the currency fluctuations, and third, we can quickly adapt to the requirements of the local market. This new production site is not at the expense of employment in Turnhout." The Belgian production site remains the biggest and most important. It will permanently continue to manufacture specialities for the entire world and commodities for the European market. The R&D activities will also continue to be centrally managed from Belgium.
